Devolution of Choice

Walking through the wild he passes by a tree on fire. The smoke makes him cough and instinctually choose to change paths. We're centuries later now; he's got fire readily available in his pocket, also complemented by a pack of cigarettes. It's become a valid choice to directly inhale smoke!
