The Spherical Sorceress

Hopelessly I was turning away to leave the beach.
There it was coming my way, and with every spin it brought hope for what I'd been longing for.
Some one asked "you want to play?"
I dropped my backpack and asked "which way are we shooting?"
They called me Egypt.

  2. I know this is about playing soccer because we talked about playing on the beach, but without knowing that, this could be read with a possible dual meaning. The question "which way are we shooting?" suggests a disinterested man passing by, who is being asked to take part in war, questioning which side he is fighting against. Maybe it seems like a stretch to make that kind of comment, but that's the feeling I got when I first read this earlier today.

  3. I had a similar impression Andy. I thought it could've been a kid in a new neighborhood, being asked to play "cops and robbers" for the first time.

Also, I loved "They called me Egypt." I kind of want to be called Egypt now...

  7. Nice one! I felt like it was a story about a man missing something in his life and finding it
